Marilie Labonté holds a B. A. in Art History from Université Laval in Quebec City. Currently working toward an M.A. in Museum Studies, she explores the ways in which the creation and exhibition of contemporary works of art engage historical collections in dialogue. More specifically, she studies the strategies that have been employed by contemporary artists and museums to create events within the context of collections. She is also interested in the relationships that may emerge or develop between living artists and the museum. As a member of CIÉCO, she has proceeded to draw up an inventory of the main instances in which artists have interacted with museum collections. As a curator and independent researcher, she has been involved in the development of exhibitions such as Il était une fois… 275 ans d’histoire at the Musée Marius-Barbeau (2012-2013) and Ruralité en noir et blanc at the Moulin La Lorraine centre d’art (2013), in addition to writing a variety of texts for museums, exhibition venues and artists.
