Museum Collections in the Context of the Event Imperative

 

The research and inquiry group CIÉCO: Collections et impératif évènementiel/The Convulsive Collections is the first to bring together the two institutional heads of the discipline of art history, namely, the museum and the university, in a joint project focusing on the development and promotion of museum collections. In an attempt to compete with the increasing, and increasingly mediatized, prestige of exhibitions in the 20th century, museums began to construct their collections in ways that fueled the many large-scale events that people have come to expect from them.
