Lamis Khalifé studied in the Arts and Archeology program of the Lebanese University of Beirut and is currently pursuing an M.A. in Art History. For her, museums are the point where the world of research and scientific discovery intersects with the general public. She is interested in the predominant role of exhibitions in the promotion of art, and in the use of museum collections to create events by inviting viewers to look at already familiar works in a new light. Her current research bears, more specifically, on the exhibition Encounters: New Art from Old, presented at the National Gallery in London in 2000. This exemplary case originated when the Gallery invited contemporary artists to create works that would generate dialogue with some of the most well-known works in its collection.
