This essay focuses on the origins of museum interventions initiated by museums who invited artists to create a new exhibition using objects and artworks taken from their permanent collection. In analyzing the singular case of the « “Raid the Icebox 1, with Andy Warhol” (1969-1970) exhibition and revisiting the first interventions associated with the Institutional Critique movement, the author examines the emergence of a practice that is now the preserve of artists, curators and museums.
